Your world is about to change, thanks to AI, web3, and the metaverse.

So, if you’re not up-to-speed with any of these, now might be a good time to address that. Because frankly, if you haven’t asked ChatGPT how to do your job for you yet, you’re falling behind.

Metaverse expert James Coop says that in a matter of years, you’ll be able to jump from studying 15th-century Florence cities to watching otters playing in a river in Scotland at the touch of a button — all from the comfort of your couch.

He says: “We’re about to see an incremental yet seismic shift. …There are so many paths for this embryonic technology that are currently being explored, and in a few years’ time, we’ll see some absolutely amazing stuff come to fruition. Watch this virtual space.”

But before you deep-dive into the (seemingly endless) possibilities that AI and the metaverse have in store for us, take a closer look at this. This video shows multifarious laser cleaning machines in action… and it is nothing short of mesmerizing.

Good morning. I’m Alice, an Editor at IE.

This is The Blueprint. Let’s get started.

Last Sunday, Blueprint subscribers heard from the world’s first 11-bladed propeller. This week they’ll hear from ChatGPT experts on why Google really does need to watch its back. Don't miss out — subscribe to IE+ today to receive exclusive interviews, features, and much more.

I challenge you not to press repeat on this at least three times. So satisfying.

According to metaverse expert James Coop, we’re about to see “an incremental yet seismic technology shift.”

His justification is that the scope of projects we’ll be able to tackle using the metaverse is infinite.

In terms of education, as just one example, he says we’ll be able to take a class around a rainforest ecosystem or a satellite orbiting in space, and they’ll feel like they’re actually there.

There’s a business case too – global team meetings, for example – U.S. Vogue famously held their AGM on it last year. They all sat in a specially-created pink world watching the latest runway collections. You can basically connect your global operations like never before, without flying them anywhere.

…It’s essentially the concept of Speilberg’s Ready Player One coming to life – you can go anywhere and do anything

→ In terms of hard evidence for this shift, James highlights the Google Glasses you can now get with both AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) on, so you can switch between the two. Those are already available …so this is coming.

 INNOVATION

On February 6, 2018, SpaceX launched a Tesla roadster and a spacesuit-clad mannequin into space onboard its Falcon Heavy rocket. At that time, the company had only just begun demonstrating its reliability as a launch provider shoring up newly-awarded contracts.

So, presuming the harshness of space hasn't decimated the duo, the question is, where is the payload five years since its launch? …The answer will blow your mind.

 SCIENCE

A team of scientists inserted an alligator gene into the genomes of catfish. The alligator gene called cathelicidin is an antimicrobial gene that plays a role in the animal's innate immune response, providing defense against various pathogens, including bacteria and viruses.

Researchers then inserted the gene into the part of the catfish genome that codes for an essential reproductive hormone. The resultant hybrids showed increased disease resistance and sterility.
